The Carolina Opry

Hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s

by Dave Johnson

Good, Good, Good, Good Vibrations

The Carolina Opry Good Vibrations

I don't use the expression "Musical Extravaganza" too often. In the case of The Carolina Opry, and its exquisite production of Good Vibrations, the expression may just be an understatement.

Although touted as a musical variety show, it has become an institution as the Grandest of the Grand Strand, with two great types of performances to cover all bases of taste. Along with Calvin Gilmore's Classic Carolina Opry show, I witnessed his "blast from the past," non-stop Good Vibrations melodies melee.

If you enjoy the 60s - 80s beat, this show is so nostalgic, it's as if time has stood still and you never left the past. Honestly, I'm not sure who was working harder, the performers on stage or me, gyrating, finger snapping and foot stomping like some little teen at a Hanna Montana concert.

Even though my brain tells me Elvis is dead, when I closed my eyes and listened to the Elvis rendition, my heart wasn't so sure.

All That! From me, the show stopper was during the outstanding multiple performances a quartet of foot stomping, personable and talented collection of guys who made the collection of penquins in "Happy Feet" look like they were stuck in quicksand.

The choreography and costumes were right on. There was such a flow and a crescendo of wave after wave of pure entertainment that exponentially built the excitement level off the Richter Scale.

I believe that only negative feature of the show was that it ended. I can truly appreciate the reason an audience will rise to their feet and scream out "Encore," over and over again.

Good, Good, Good, Vibrations!Although the cast of characters may change, the goosebumps are real and everlasting. My suggestion is don't just bring a friend, bring a group. After the show, the cast even takes time to meet and greet the audience. There is no bad seat in the house, and my seeming VIP treatment and the professionalism and friendliness of the staff will always remain with me.

The coup de gras was the gift shop with its memorabilia to help preserve an everlasting hands on memory of a great experience.

If you don't have the time of your life here, remind me to check your pulse.

Mark your calendar for there is no time like the present to plan your future itinerary for this must see event.
