If you are looking for
a successful way to cut strokes from your game, then take a look at your
Short Game. I define the Short Game as all shots within 120
yards of the hole location. Mastering or becoming proficient
at the Short Game requires the ability to assess a situation, determine,
visualize, and execute the shot that you plan.
Assess the situation
This is the first element
of thought that goes into planning ALL successful golf shots. Obviously,
you need to determine what type of shot you need to hit to get the ball
close to the flag.
Get in a habit of asking
yourself the following questions:
1. How will the ball react
upon landing on the green?
2. Will the ball roll a great
deal or will the ball stop?
3. How much "break" will
I need to play to get the ball close to the pin?
4. Do I need to carry the
ball over hazards or severe undulations?
5. Can I "run" the ball on
the ground?
6. Will "rough" be a factor?
7. Will wind affect my shot?
8. How is the ball sitting
on the turf, sand, or other surfaces present on the golf course?
9. How will the slope of
my stance affect the flight of the ball?
Determine what shot to hit
Questions answered, similar to those above,
will make it apparent what type of shot you need to play. Great Short
Game shot makers are CREATIVE, and possess the "know how" to control the
trajectory (high, medium, or low ball flight) and use this skill to their
advantage.
Visualize the shot
Always see the shot you are trying to
play, CLEARLY in your mind's eye before stepping up to the shot.
Discipline your mind to see the shot as if you are watching a film of the
shot before you hit it. This positive imagery "programs" your mind
so that your "muscle memory" allows your body to produce the desired result.
Execute the shot
Successful execution requires understanding
and practicing the skills necessary to control the distance, trajectory,
and direction of the shot.
Myra has designed a series of Short Game
Schools that will enable students to understand the principles needed to
quickly improve their scoring ability. Each 3 hour session is designed
to equip the student with the skills necessary to confidently handle most
situations they will face "out on the links".

"Venus on the Fairway" was created because of a lack of teaching methods designed for the way women learn.
Rather than overload the reader with highly technical swing instruction, Debbie emphasizes practical drills that teach women how to "feel" key swing movements, reinforced by a simple and positive teaching style.
Venus on the Fairway ensures readers will have fun while learning.

"Venus on the Fringe, Introducing the "V Factor" Creating a Short Game That Works for Humans"In this book, from putting and chipping to the lob shot, Venus simplifies the short game. "Give Me Another 'V'" reminds us that "Chipping is nothing more than putting with a lofted club." "Light bulb moments" to practice drills will really help your short game.
Jan Stephenson, 1981 Short Game Player of the Year on the LPGA Tour, says, "In tournaments, the short game is the key to not dropping shots and losing one to the field. You can hit it to eight feet all day, but if you can't finish, you can't score and you can't win. Debbie's refreshing and educational approach to teaching in Venus on the Fringe is long overdue."
