Sandia Golf Club
Sandia Golf Club, part of the Four Star "Sandia Resort & Casino" property, is just minutes away from downtown Albuquerque, and is a part of the Pueblo of Sandia.
Scott Miller has designed a course that let's you appreciate the ambience all around you with panoramic views of the Sandia Mountains, the Corrales Bosque, the Rio Grande River and the Albuquerque skyline.
The generous rolling fairways may lull you into thinking your round will be a piece of cake. But there's lots of high desert landscape just waiting to eat you up before you get to the large greens that may mean very long putts if you are not close to the pin.
You can play out of most of the desert, but I met my waterloo at Hole #6, Par 4. Whether you go for the landing area or straight at the pin, there's a large carryover. With plants sparsely spiking up through the sand it looked like it would be easily found. But, not so for me. I think I lost my ball in the top (or bottom) of one of those bushes.
Ladies, the good news is that the forward tees have great locations lined up right in front of the fairways. I know you are not used to this, but here you can hit straight down the fairway. The LPGA has already played Sandia Golf Club for the 2006 LPGA Teaching and Club Professional National Team Competition.
At 5112 yards from the forward tees to the tips at 7772 yards, this course is in great condition for a course that just opened in the summer of 2005.
It has already won recognition as "Top 10 New Courses you can Play" by Golf Magazine and Golf Inc.'s "Best New Development of 2005."
It's a Sure Bet for a great game of golf for a great price! You can make a tee time at this public course for less than $50. (Prices for Summer 2007.)
For a hole by hole description, see "Course Layout."
