La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa
When you are planning for a golf getaway, hitting a new golf course each day, it is always great to schedule an afternoon at the spa to get all the kinks worked out and rejuvenated for new activities.
We arrived at the AVANYU® Spa just minutes before our appointments. Our brief meander along the lush, landscaped paths between the Pueblo Revival-style adobe casitas set the atmosphere to experience a renewal of "our mind, body and spirit" at one of Travel + Leisure's 500 Greatest Hotels in the World, one of only 55 newly honored in the continental United States for 2004.
Although just two blocks from historic downtown Santa Fe, where you can stroll and shop at fashionable boutiques, fabulous art galleries and wonderful restaurants, we were in our own little world - far from being in the rough days of the old frontier.
After slipping into our robes, we joined others in the lounging area where we sipped cool lemon water to prepare for our next experience.
With the couples massage options being completely booked up, Dave and I went our separate ways. I chose the Chocolate-Chile Wrap and Dave chose the Deep Massage.
Taking the smell of chocolate with me, I couldn't help but take a little sniff of my arm from time to time to remember the experience. My masseuse said, "This is a very nice treatment to include in a romantic getaway."
My husband, Dave, returned from his "Rolling Thunder" therapeutic and deep tissue massage with a great smile as well.
I felt like Julia Staab, whose husband Abraham Staab built the mansion, which was the first structure of LaPasoda. Bringing her to Santa Fe from Germany, he promised her a home "with the richest in taste and style," where she could entertain with tea, coffee and cakes. I felt like royalty being entertained by the hospitable Staabs, who earned their wealth as a major supply contractor for U.S. Army posts in the Southwest during the Civil War.
Dining
We didn't sample the appetizers as we had reservations at the AAA Four Diamond Award-winning Fuego Restaurant and winner of the 2006 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence where
the Chef delighted us with his menu of a multi-course for dinner. You can see I lost count.
You will want to take an appetite with you and plan to savor each morsel, a fusion of innovative foods and flavors of classical traditions.
Sit back and rest your feet at LaPosada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa before exploring your next frontier in America's "oldest capital city" or scouting out the downtown and Indian Market.
